Tools We Use

High-end tools set Knack apart from other small engineering firms. We use industry standard tools like 3D-CAD and process simulators in order to deliver accurate design data to our customers.

Process Simulation

Process simulation is used in nearly all of our projects. Accurate mass and energy balances are at the core of what we do. Knack utilizes ChemCAD™ simulation software mass and energy balance calculations and mass transfer predictions.

Integrated Plant Design Software

Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) are the most important engineering documents for chemical process plants. When the P&IDs can be electronically integrated with other engineering documents such as detailed equipment specifications and piping isometrics, projects can be executed more quickly and accurately. Knack utilizes AutoCAD Plant 3D™, an industry standard software, for this purpose.

Process and Utility Pipe Stress Analysis (Finite Element Analysis)

Knack uses CAEPIPE™ for analysis of pipeline stress on projects which utilize high temperature process or utility lines. This software allows our engineers to determine if stress relief is required and if so, the best position for expansion joints, spring hangers and other piping components.

Process Conceptualization

Every project has a start and Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) are the place where the initial process design is put on paper. Knack uses ConceptDraw™ and Visio™ for these applications.
